Welcome to TH7! Now what do you do? DRAGONS!!!

Town Hall 7 is great. There are many new troops, defenses and new spells to experiment with. If you remember from TH6, the first thing to focus on upgrading is the new game changing offensive capability. At TH6 that was healing spells and healers. At TH7 it is dragons and getting that third spell slot. This guide focuses on offense.

PRIORITY UPGRADES
  • Upgrade your laboratory right away; you want it ready as soon as the barracks upgrade finishes
  • Upgrade one barracks to level 9 to unlock dragons
  • Upgrade your spell factory to level 3
  • Drop and upgrade your fourth army camp. Get up to 200 army spaces.
  • Drop and begin upgrading your third air defense
  • Upgrade Dragons to level 2

The major issue right away is your spell factory. You will want to upgrade this as soon as possible. If it interferes with war, you may want to opt out until it finishes, as you will not be able to cook new spells until then. Don’t get overly excited about that level one rage spell, you can experiment with it, but it is not a game changer right away. The important point is getting that third spell spot.

With three spells, you can triple lightning attack air defenses. That means that a TH7 base with three air defenses can be reduced, before your main attack ever begins, to the same two air defenses as a TH6 base. This will make it much easier to defeat with your new favorite troop: DRAGONS.

Dragons are the new joy (and frustration) of your life. They are amazingly powerful. They eat villages and laugh at wizard towers. Nevertheless, they can also be counted upon to do everything possible to ruin your raid. They will fly the wrong direction. They will sometimes fly around an air defense instead of attacking it. And they are frustratingly slow. However, this is the one troop and the one town hall level that you can always get three stars once you master it.

Once you have your spell factory upgraded and a barracks upgraded, your lab should be finishing up as well. Start upgrading to level 2 dragons as soon as possible.  Yes, this is all going to cost crazy amounts of elixir, but it is all worth it! Don’t be tempted to upgrade a cheaper troop first or to try other attack strategies. You have been playing this game for months just to get to the day that you can unleash 10 dragons on a helpless warbase, roast it, and walk out with three golden stars. Keep your eyes on that prize and get these upgrades going.

DARK ELIXIR
dark elixir sounds mysterious and powerful. In reality, it is a trap. You will be tempted every time you do a raid or get war loot and the dark elixir is lost because you can’t hold it yet. Don’t be fooled into prioritizing these upgrades over the much more important dragon upgrades. Once all of the items at the top have been completed, then you can start on your journey into DE (dark elixir). Build these in this order:

  • Dark elixir storage (there is no point in making it if you can’t store it)
  • Dark elixir drill, then focus on upgrading this beauty
  • Barbarian King
  • Dark Barracks
  • Hog Rider Level 2
  • Minions Level 2 (in fact this should be the very last upgrade in your lab at TH7)

You probably have three builders by now. If you have saved all your gems along the way, you may even be able to get your fourth builder about now. You should be around 50 stars on the goblin map. If so, that achievement will help get the gems you need. Just a word here; when you get the 50 stars, STOP. Save the rest of the goblin map until TH9. You will be glad you did. Goblin missions start to get much harder soon and will likely cost more in troops and failed raids than you will get back. At TH9, its like easy money in a secret piggybank that you have been saving. Trust me, you will be glad.

For now, enjoy this magical time. TH7 will be amazing fun.

Here's a good example from one of our members (Alonso) on how to get your dragons to funnel to the core and that deadly ad:

This is a th8 attacking a th8, but is posted under the th7 section because it is a good example of how a higher th7 would attack a low to mid th8.  Very nice dragloon and notice how the rage and loon timing works.  Use rage to get your troops where you want them to go quickly.

And here's the same base being attacked by one of our th7 members with lvl 2 dragons and a different set of spells.  Again, good funneling and rage placement.

With the new update which allows TH7 to have three air defenses, some of you may want to start learning Hog Rider technique.  Daniel shows you the basics and his preferred technique. It is not the only technique, but for those of you that learned to use balloons at TH5-6, the idea of using giants to block for your damage dealing troops is familiar.

This video shows a variety of alternative TH7 strategies that will still work against three air defenses:

The introduction of a third air defense for TH7 has totally changed the attack strategy there. For TH7 bases with three highly upgraded air defenses, this is a great alternative to dragons. This exploits the fact that TH7 does not have very many walls, so there are not often dummy giant bomb spots. The giants and archers clear the giant bomb spots and the hogs wreck the rest of the base under heal spells. Awesome attack for three stars!!!***
